Three dogs in a line for obedience class at The Watering Bowl.

Butt Sniffers Academy

Butt Sniffers Academy

The Watering Bowl was built on the philosophy of healthy socialization leading to better behavior and strong relationships.

Butt Sniffers Academy, The Watering Bowl’s prestigious four-legged institute of higher learning, extends that pack mentality to the world of obedience. Our mission is to blend consistent discipline and healthy socialization to foster a well-rounded life for both dogs and their owners.

We offer a curriculum for raising a well-balanced dog. And we encourage dogs of all training levels to sign up for a six-week class, in-home training or stay and train courses. All of our programs are guided by our three certified trainers who have all been certified through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, the preeminent national organization for certifying dog trainers.

Butt Sniffers can be a refresher for some, a chance to learn more for others or just an opportunity to hang out with your dog somewhere other than the couch.

Any way you look at it, BSA is meaningful for both of you.

We take pride in developing well-balanced dogs, and we encourage dogs of all training levels to sign up for a six-week class, in-home training or stay and train courses.

Pups of all ages, sizes and skill level are welcome.

But when it comes to a class setting, we do try to group our pupils, so everyone can get the most out of their time with us. We also limit each class to no more than 8 students. This way, everyone gets attention from the professor, and our time together doesn’t become totally consumed with play.

Classes are filled based on demand, so we encourage you to call our Dog Grove location at 314.328.2505 if you’re interested in enrolling, and we’ll let you know about the next available class.

Pre-requisites include:

Spay/neuter and up-to-date vaccinations, including DHLPP, Rabies, Bordatella and a negative fecal test.

If your pup has stayed with us, we should have the records on file.

Get the most out of your dog’s years, and check out the course listings below to see what will most benefit you and your pup.

Introduction to Butt Sniffers (Puppy Class)

Puppies have their own set of needs and widely varying agendas at any given moment. Coaching them together helps the pups and their owners learn from each other in a social, yet disciplined setting. You and your new best friend will learn about how to care for a puppy as well. We’ll discuss puppy-centric topics such as chewing, listening and, of course, potty training. And given their attention spans, we may revisit these topics more than once. The importance of instilling discipline early cannot be overstated. So, of course, we won’t overstate it. But we will spend six weeks improving behavior and building relationships.

By the time graduation rolls around, you’ll be amazed by what the two of you can accomplish together. And it’s only the beginning.

This class is a great opportunity to bond and find potential playmates for life. If this is your first dog, congratulations. We can’t wait to meet both of you and welcome you to our cage-free canine community.

The academy comes to you and your pet to work on individual behavioral needs that may be specific to your location, such as barking, charging the door, jumping on guests or table surfing. You are able to work one-on-one with the trainer to target the issues and correct them with basic obedience cues. Homeschooling is easily tailored to focus on your dog’s needs and not general commands that they may have already mastered.

– $125 initial in-home consultation
– Pricing is based on location and duration
