There’s a lot going on at The Watering Bowl. Check back here often to stay up on the latest. And be sure to check our Facebook page to see how much fun we had at past events.
We opened The Watering Bowl over half a decade ago with the dream of ingraining ourselves in dog culture and expanding to more locations in and around St. Louis.
Go ahead, we’ll wait. (more…)
It takes a lot to open a new location. It takes time and energy and long nights and more than a couple coats of paint.
But when it does finally open months and months later, and the dogs start coming in, it’s an amazing reminder of why we started all this in the first place. What could possibly be any more rewarding than seeing happy pups enjoying the new place?
Well, that’s exactly the question we asked ourselves.
The answer: using our official grand opening to raise money for rescue groups in our own backyard. (more…)
There’s a lot to be excited about with the new location at 5215 Manchester Avenue in the newly minted Dog Grove neighborhood.
It’s big. It’s convenient. It’s not that far from the new Ikea, so you can drop your dog off while you go shop for more furniture for your dog to enjoy.
There’s a ton of excitement beyond our ho-hum tail wagging we do every day at The Watering Bowl. New location, new home for Butt Sniffers Academy, new employees coming on board. It’s all positive, and we are enjoying every minute of it.
And one of the biggest pieces of news is that we are adding a partner to go along with our third location (ahem, at 5215 Manchester Ave). Jim Conger, our new Alpha Dog, has been getting his hands dirty at all three of our doggy daycare facilities, and he took a short break to tell us a little more about who he is, what he’s been doing and what he’s looking forward to.
Take a read.
Jim, you already have the job, so we’ll try not to make this interview too strenuous.
Now, try reading that headline again without singing it like Axl Rose.
Okay, glad that we got that out of the way. Once again, welcome to The Dog Grove. We’ve got fun and games.
Scratch that. Seriously, there’s a story to tell here, and it doesn’t involve an 80’s rock band. We’ll save that for another day.
This is about our third location. But it’s also bigger than that.
It’s about what this third location means to our community. We’re in an amazing part of town. It’s between the two of the most traveled highways in our city. And we’re on a lot people’s ways to work.
Our theory was that most people would enjoy their commutes to and from work just a little bit more if they had a dog with them.
There’s a lot of great stuff happening at The Watering Bowl.
Our cage-free canine community is expanding to the city. Butt Sniffers Academy is continually ranked as the foremost four-legged institute of higher learning. We have fancy, schmancy new camera equipment for posting videos of our dogs.
And we are getting dangerously close to 10,000 likes on our Facebook page.
Dogs love the water. It’s fun, they can play in it, and it cools them off in the summer.
But this summer, it’s been cool because of the water. The rainwater in particular. And we know this can keep dogs and their owners indoors. Which is the opposite of fun.
The times they are a-changin’ around The Watering Bowl. We thought we were all cutting edge way back in 2010 when we integrated Facebook into everything we did. How quaint.
There we were with new toys to play with, and everyone just loved all the interaction and connectivity.
Well, nowadays, we’re operating on a whole new level. Multiple social media channels, including Twitter, Instagram and probably some others we haven’t even heard of keep our owners up-to-date on everything TWB. Plus, we’re pretty sure we have our own, unsanctioned version of Uber for dogs in the form of The Waggin’ Wagon. But that’s a whole other thing (no taxicab commission approval necessary).
Look out because we’ve gone and upped the ante this time.
In this edition of Dog Smarts, we get to hear from the highly-regarded Paul F. Knubley, DVM. He is the owner and sole practitioner at Oakville Veterinary Office, not too far from our South County location.
