New Year For The Strays

There’s nothing trivial about pet adoption. Yet every year, Purina puts on New Year for the Strays, St. Louis’ biggest trivia night to benefit animal rescue organizations in our town. It’s over a thousand people in a room, combining their generosity and their obscure knowledge to do something we all know for sure helps dogs.

If saving a life isn’t quite enough to tempt you adopt a dog, the Humane Society of the United States cites additional reasons to do the right thing.

House training Most pets available at shelters have already been trained to go outside.

One adoption helps two pets because by adopting an animal from a shelter, you make room for another. And your financial support helps multiple others.

You’ll have a good story about how you helped rescue a dog who was waiting for you to come along and save the day.

But don’t get us wrong. We’re not trying to pat ourselves on the back for playing trivia. In fact, in all of our years, we have never finished in the top 10 of the 100 tables who participate.

We do, however, like to count ourselves among the proud sponsors of this incredible showing of support. In case you’re wondering, the beneficiaries of the night’s proceeds include:

APA of Missouri, Five Acres Animal Shelter, Stray Rescue, Open Door Animal Sanctuary, Gateway Pet Guardians, Belleville Area Humane Society, Humane Society of Missouri, B.A.R.C., OpSPOT, Helping Strays (Humane Society of Monroe County), Partners For Pets, Athletes For Animals, St. Louis County Animal Care & Control, Tenth Life Cat Rescue and Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic.

This year’s event is already sold out. But if you (or your company) are interested in getting in on the action, tables and auction items will be registered soon for next year. It’s a big production, and we’re proud to be a small part of it.

In the meantime, if you have any quick study tips for trivia night, shoot ‘em our way. We can use all the help we can get.
